Crickets are one of the best feeder insect choices for your pet reptile: They’re high in protein, low in fat, and conveniently available at nearly every pet store! However, they’re low in calcium and can be hard to keep alive at home.

Feeding crickets a high-calcium, dry diet for 1-3 days (”gut-loading”) is the gold standard for improving their calcium content to at least a 1:1 calcium-to-phosphorus ratio (Ca:P).
