WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

Working at Petland means being part of a dedicated team that puts the health, happiness, and care of our animals first—every single day. Our team members often begin their day well before the store opens and continue their responsibilities after closing to ensure every pet receives the attention they deserve. Each team member plays an important role, and reliability matters. Being on time, prepared, and in uniform is essential to keeping our store running smoothly. While our doors may close, pet care never stops. Our animals require daily feeding, cleaning, and care—including on holidays.

Because our busiest times are evenings and weekends, team members are expected to contribute during those shifts. While you won’t be scheduled for every one, flexibility and a willingness to share in these responsibilities are key.

Everyone who shows interest in working at Petland usually shares one important trait: a genuine love for animals. That passion is essential, because if you don’t truly enjoy being around animals, this probably isn’t the right environment for you. However, it’s important to understand that caring for animals in a retail setting is very different from having one or two pets at home.

In a store, you’re responsible for the well-being of many animals at once, each with their own needs, routines, and care requirements. This means the job involves a significant amount of responsibility and hands-on work every single day. Cleaning is a major part of the role, and it’s something everyone on the team participates in regularly. Maintaining a healthy and safe environment for the animals requires constant attention, which includes handling and cleaning up waste. While it may not be the most glamorous aspect of the job, it is a natural and unavoidable part of working with animals. In the end, it’s all part of ensuring the animals are properly cared for and comfortable, which is the top priority.


OUR ROLES

Pet Counsellor

As a Pet Counsellor, you'll be at the heart of creating exceptional experiences for our guests and their pets. You'll help customers find the right products, answer questions, and provide education on responsible pet ownership and animal care. Whether you're caring for animals, maintaining store displays, assisting guests, or supporting your team, every day brings something new.

We're looking for enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with people, have a passion for animals, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Previous pet care experience is an asset, but not required—we provide extensive training to help you succeed.

Department Manager / Floor Supervisor

As a Department Manager or Floor Supervisor, you'll play a key leadership role in supporting the daily success of the store. Working alongside the Store Manager, you'll help guide, develop, and motivate team members while ensuring operational excellence and outstanding guest experiences.

This role requires a balance of leadership, sales, and operational skills. You'll lead by example, support team development, maintain high store standards, and help create an environment where both team members and guests feel welcome and valued. Inventory Control Manager

As an Inventory Control Manager, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the store operates efficiently behind the scenes while supporting the overall success of the team. You'll be responsible for managing inventory levels, overseeing product flow, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring merchandise is organized, stocked, and presented to company standards.

Working closely with the Store Manager, you'll help coordinate operational processes, support team members, and ensure the store has the products and supplies needed to provide an exceptional guest experience. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

You'll also gain valuable leadership and administrative experience by overseeing inventory procedures, processing paperwork, utilizing store systems and technology, and helping train and support team members. If you enjoy problem-solving, staying organized, and contributing to the success of a team, this role offers an excellent opportunity for growth and development within Petland.

Store Manager

As a Store Manager, you'll be responsible for leading the overall success of your store while creating an exceptional experience for both guests and team members. You'll oversee daily operations, drive sales performance, support team development, and ensure every guest receives the knowledgeable, personalized service they deserve.
