DCM - Statement

Petland Canada Inc. would like to make you aware of a news story regarding certain brands of dog foods.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning that some brands of dog food may be potentially linked to canine heart disease, dilated cardiomyopathy, known as DCM.

Although this is a concerning and complex issue we recognize that the current details are vague and require more investigation by the FDA to determine if there is a dietary link to the development of DCM.

At this time there are no recommendation to change your dog’s food. If you have any questions about your dog’s diet, we encourage you to talk to your veterinarian.

Our pet food partners are as passionate about your pets’ health as we are! We are pet lovers ourselves and many of the food manufacturers listed are family owned companies who are committed to provide safe pet food that delivers complete and balanced nutrition.

Petland will continue to monitor this complex issue and work closely with the manufacturers as it will take time for the full scientific picture to form. Updates will be provided as new information develops.
